It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the little cutie in this picture is Martin at age two and a half … exactly the age Jaz is now. The story behind this photo is family legend, relayed to me by both his mother and his aunt.
Martin claims to also have memories of this day, although I suspect some of it may have been from hearing the story so often.
In this picture, he’s standing in front of the first collage he made all by himself. He spent the ENTIRE day on it, going through his mom’s magazines, cutting and pasting the images to the poster board. He was so proud of it, and showing it to everybody around, that his mother put it up on the wall and took a photo.
I like to think that Martin was foreshadowing a little bit. It’s hard to see here, but there’s a big image of a washing machine, an attractive brunette in business clothes, an athletic man in casual clothes, a few children, and other random household and family images.
Also, I’ve included his mother script in this image. Written underneath the photo in his baby scrapbook, it says “Martin’s first handmade collage” and then she wrote the date in the German order: 28 April 1981.
Since it’s my birthday next week, my other #TBT photo comes from my actual birth day in 1981. Proof that I’ve always had a flair for the dramatic, I was delivered a month early after my mother Tawana suddenly developed toxemia — now called HELLP syndrome — in the middle of the night in small town Abilene, Texas. High blood pressure, seizures, systems crashing, emergency surgery … all that jazz. Needless to say, it was several hours before my mother was able to see me, a moment which my Dad captured here.
Here’s one more from that time since it’s so fun … 🙂
