It’s an evening of gin, jazz, and my girl Jenn in downtown Stuttgart at the annual Gin & Tonic festival. I’m finding that I prefer dry gin now, less fruity, but the night is still young. Tasted a lot of gin this evening, mostly from the UK and Germany, some from Spain. Pink gin was tasty, but a little too sweet for me. I definitely prefer dry and bitter. Cheers!
It‘s that time of year when Jack Frost wants to disrupt my morning routine, but then THIS guy shows up with piping hot coffee and forces me into the car with the seat warmer kicked on so he can scrape the windows quickly and get me on my way. I kept motioning for him to take his shirt off, too, but obviously, he ignored me. Maybe next time! A great way to start the day … fingers crossed this continues when it REALLY starts to snow!
Big smiles today. Can you tell why?
(No more braces!)
My brunch date. A little demanding, but super cute.
Thank goodness for Amazon Prime next-day delivery, and collapsible tables and benches. And cousins who live a few hours away, who will bring a variety of Thanksgiving decorations on short notice. And German, American, and Syrian friends who feel like family.
And carbs and wine and Cincinnati chili dip. And pie.
And for an American holiday that embraces food, friendship, and FUN. Thank goodness for that.Continue reading
Today’s workout in the home gym included an hour on the cardio machine. I prefer running outside, but RuPaul’s DragRace Season 10 on Netflix made it so much fun! Also, shout-out to my crime-fighting badass sister Jill for the Kentucky Women’s Law Enforcement Network t-shirt.
It is one degree below freezing. It’s early afternoon, but the sun is barely hanging on just above the horizon. And my beautiful trees got naked while I was in the United States.
2:21 a.m. – This would be a lot more fun if we had some Helium, but all she‘s got are two lightheaded parents with great lung capacity determined to fill her bedroom before she wakes up.
2:43 a.m. – Exactly 10 years ago, I was wide awake and restless, too excited to sleep, knowing my baby girl was just hours away from being born. Now, I‘m too restless and excited (and still jet-lagged, TBH) to sleep, knowing tomorrow is going to be full of her most favorite things. She knows, but she doesn’t, and it‘s going to be awesome.
We celebrate an important birthday this weekend, so today’s Throwback Thursday photo is from November 2008, taken when my Lola was just a few days old. She was a dream come true: my very own living baby doll who looked just like me. When they held up Lola over the curtain for that first glance, my immediate thought was, “She looks JUST LIKE ME! She is MINE!”
I can’t believe she’s hitting the double digits now! Thank goodness she still lets me squish her face every now and then.
I’m home again, and so is my sweet old girl. She was asleep when I got there, but when I said her name, she lifted her head and gave me this look, and then thumped her tail . Both glad to be in our own spaces again. Thanks to Onkel Christian and the girls for keeping her for us. Just as I do coming back from the States, she looks well-fed.
