Best Day Ever – 10

2:21 a.m. – This would be a lot more fun if we had some Helium, but all she‘s got are two lightheaded parents with great lung capacity determined to fill her bedroom before she wakes up.

2:43 a.m. – Exactly 10 years ago, I was wide awake and restless, too excited to sleep, knowing my baby girl was just hours away from being born. Now, I‘m too restless and excited (and still jet-lagged, TBH) to sleep, knowing tomorrow is going to be full of her most favorite things. She knows, but she doesn’t, and it‘s going to be awesome.

12:27 p.m. – We kicked off Best Day Ever 10 with Nutella crepes and cappuccino for breakfast.

12:53 p.m. – First Best Day Ever 10 note revealed we’re all headed to a place where a kid can do it all…

1:04 p.m. – We are at Sensapolis … a HUGE indoor amusement park where there is a life-size space ship to explore, a castle, ropes course, zip line, a giant treehouse, even an adventures course for babies…we‘re doing it all!

1:16 p.m. – The birthday girl in her natural habitat.

1:44 p.m. – Working her way to a birthday brain freeze. (And still looking like a Kiernan Shipka Doppelgängerin, ja?)

2:41 p.m. – I accidentally ordered them the jumbo slushees. In a moment of complete self-awareness, Jaz explained, “It’s over now, Mom. Here comes the sugar rush!“

3:15 p.m. – It’s the second note of the day! Martin better watch his wallet…

3:45 p.m. – Yeah, we‘ll get to the mall, but first … ball fight.

5:04 p.m. – He‘s a good sport, waiting for his sister to pick out the most perfect accessories for her dress, but he‘s gonna have to work on that poker face.

5:18 p.m. – She made a birthday decision: ice cream for dinner. However, there was some minor dissidence when they brought out the parents’ dishes first. You never have to guess how Jaz is feeling at any moment.

5:22 p.m. – Ice cream Pokémon!! We were at the ice cream stand in the center of the local mall. Those are washing machines from a store similar to Best Buy.

7:03 p.m. – Time for gifts! Amanda hooked her up with some of her favorite toys and candies while Big Sis gave her a box full of things Lola’s going to need as, Miss C explained, she “starts tripping into puberty.” The spray deodorant went over especially well.

7:44 p.m. – My Lola. Age 10.

8:30 p.m. – Before she left for the show, Lola told us we’re going to have a hard time topping this birthday when her 15th rolls around “because this REALLY felt like the best day ever” for her. That was the goal! I am so proud of this hard-headed, gooey-hearted, genuinely kind young lady who carries within her a great sense of humor and compassion and sensitivity for others. And smart as a whip! I can‘t wait to see what the future has in store for her. I love you, lady. As I tell you every year on this day, MY best day ever was the day you were born. Happy Birthday!!!

7:57 p.m. – They made it! Martin sent me this just before the show Anastasia started. What great seats! I can’t wait to hear all about it when they get home.

9:04 p.m. – Martin arranged for pretzels and drinks to be waiting for them during intermission. Lola‘s texts to me were all in caps. She loves it.

11:44 p.m. – Our birthday girl is home! She got a new mug for her morning coffee, AND they checked off one last item on her wishlist: a stop by McDonalds for a late-night Happy Meal. What a full and fabulous day! Lola also says THANK YOU to everyone who commented, liked, and sent her best wishes!
