Requiem

I ran in the Schönbuch forest yesterday. It’s where the last King of Württemberg and his wife Princess Charlotte lived after his heartbreaking abdication of the throne in 1918.

It‘s a vast protected park now, home to the couple’s palace, and soldiers’ graves, and the stone foundations of medieval castles, and I practically had the whole place to myself, except for the few red deer I passed along the trail.

And while the quiet there is music itself, I ran to Mozart‘s Requiem … a fitting masterpiece.
